Dragon’s Dogma 2: Evaluation of Magic Swordsman, Sorcerer, Fighter, Magic Archer, Rogue, Mage, Archer, Warrior
Magic Swordsman
Officially equipped with the three major professions, the Magic Swordsman can group-cast invincible shields, possesses powerful healing magic, unleashes powerful charged martial arts skills, has the ability to create clones for close combat, aerial strikes, and small magical projectiles. It lacks significant weaknesses other than slightly lower normal damage output, which is fully compensated by the powerful fire attacks. Its versatility surpasses other professions. Making an operational error during the first visit to the palace resulted in being discovered by the guards; nevertheless, the Magic Swordsman single-handedly carved their way through the entire palace and prison, truly embodying the feeling of an unrivaled war god. A stone that reveals the talent of Dragon’s Trust, the Magic Swordsman reigns supreme! My favorite profession.
Mage
More of an elemental cleric than a traditional sorcerer, the Mage casts powerful elemental spells of fire, lightning, and ice to bestow teammates with strong elemental damage, but its primary focus lies in potent healing abilities. Capable of recovery matrices, dispelling matrices, swift healing, and group shields, the Mage possesses almost all necessary skills for a support class. However, the Mage’s shield is not as effective as the Magic Swordsman’s shield, yet it remains an indispensable profession in a team. The Grandmaster skill “Inspiration of God” provides extensive health restoration over a large area to support teammates in combat, although it has a relatively short duration and depletes the Mage’s own health.
Fighter
A straightforward frontline combatant specializing in early-game damage output, the Fighter boasts the highest HP among all professions, making it suitable for prolonged battles. Its high weapon demands are challenging due to the lack of exceptional two-handed weapons in the early stages, such as acquiring the Electric Pulse skill. Despite its slow attack speed, the Fighter exhibits strong counterattacking capabilities and excels in breaking through enemy defenses using charged attacks. The Fighter’s standout feature is its charging mechanics; the longer the charge, the more powerful the strike, although it is most effective against moving targets.
Magic Archer
One of the three main professions included in the game, the Magic Archer is a highly offensive combatant known for its strong battle magic and archery skills. Equipped with tracking aim functionality and a scattering attack method, the Magic Archer’s preferred combination includes Ice Chase, Blood Transfusion, Unlimited Light Bullets, and Burial Emperor’s Bow. The Burial Emperor’s Bow can eliminate any target at the cost of burning vitality, presenting significant risks. Despite this, the Magic Archer demonstrates strong independence in the wilderness, surviving without a Mage through self-healing skills. However, profession quests are challenging, as obtaining a pass around level 15 is difficult, requiring passage through the mountain pass to Baderal. Traveling from Baderal to the volcanic island…even forcefully dragging enemies is challenging, and some areas are impassable.
Rogue
Another of the three primary professions in the game, the Rogue is widely recognized for its strength and its two easily acquired Master skills. Personally starting with the Rogue, I found its gameplay somewhat lacking in fluidity, demanding a certain level of consistency in operations. With Mirror Lake Serenity and Fiery Blade of Extinguishment, the Rogue’s combat prowess significantly increases. Mirror Lake Serenity offers strong evasion abilities but depletes stamina quickly, while Fiery Blade of Extinguishment inflicts high damage at the cost of self-harm, requiring coordination with Mirror Lake Serenity. This necessitates assistance from the Mage’s Inspiration of God to maximize the Rogue’s potential. The double grief weapon Double Sorrow is my personal favorite, but obtaining it poses challenges and requires completing the Desert Bandit Gang quest.
Wizard
As an upgraded version of the Mage, the Wizard forsakes healing capabilities in favor of potent magical damage. The two ultimate skills, Meteor Firestorm and Tornado Storm, deliver immense power, although the former cannot be used in dungeons. Unlike previous professions, the Wizard heavily relies on teammates, with limited solo survivability. Acquiring the Wizard’s Grandmaster mission is challenging and requires a set of five magic books to complete.
Archer
Operating as an early-game damage dealer, the Archer’s role is limited beyond bird hunting in outdoor battles. Highly dependent on weapon quality, the Archer faces challenges due to the lack of exceptional weapons early on. While the Elven Bow is decent, its price may deter players, and the village chief-provided bow, while sufficient, merely compensates for the Archer’s damage deficiencies. Nevertheless, the Archer’s Grandmaster skill proves practical in the early stages, delivering significant damage when fully charged.
Warrior
The final profession to master, the Warrior excels in offense and defense, leaning slightly towards defense. With high equipment requirements for tank roles, the Warrior must withstand heavy blows, though obtaining the early Shield of Protection is beneficial for tanking. Despite low damage output compared to the seven aforementioned professions with equivalent gear, the Warrior is not designed for high damage dealing. However, its ease of operation and simple gameplay make it suitable for engaging smaller groups or tanking against larger foes.
